An ocean's treasure

Ebbing and flowing
emerging from the ocean's depths
in all her glory.

On one of my trips to my brother's place in California,
we took a drive around the area. This beautiful piece of the ocean's
bounty we found on a beach that he kayaks.
He also took me to some of the beaches he surfs.
I love the northern California coast. It is some of the most beautiful
coastline I've ever seen. I've seen every mile of the Pacific coast and
several hundred of the east coast. I would like to see Maine. We have
cousins that live there. One lives near Peak's Island. I've seen pictures
and it's a place I know I would love. The ocean, coastal cities and towns,
are some of the places I like to hunt for bargains at flea markets and yard sales.
~ maybe some day ~

Sam sits in back now
listening to old friends talk
till morning time fades.

I never knew my great grampa Sam or my great grama Martina.
They were gone before I was born. My grama, who I called Nana, shared
her stories as best she could. Evidently there were a lot of painful memories
in her past and she steered clear of those. So, basically it's been the
past ten years that my sister in law and I have been doing some
family history research, that we learned more about the family.
Our aunt Madeline had this picture of grampa Sam in one of his
morning get togethers with friends. He is sitting against
the back wall with no hat.

A Favorite Spot Gone

A very good friend of mine, Lori Leighton, has closed her specialty shop The Glass Slipper. In my opinion it was one of Ferndale's best businesses. We all converged on Lori whenever the urge hit us to just browse through her beautiful shop and talk with a wonderful woman. She always welcomed us with open arms, literally. Coffee, tea and downright titillating conversation were the offerings of the day.(and of course big hugs!!) Lori has a vivacious personality and a never ending creative streak. She will be taking some well deserved time off to be with her family and re-kindle new fires for future endeavors.

I took some pictures of her and the shop in the last week or two of business to remind me and anyone who frequented her shop how much we and I appreciate her and love her. To you Lori!!

Images of Love

The sun is out now.
This day is made for loving.
Make the most of it.

Walking in the rain

Walking in the rain
jumping in all the puddles
jogging memories

Walking down the street
lifting my tongue to the rain
brought me a smile

Walking through Eureka

On a great vacation to Eureka and my brother and sister's house
in the mountains we found this great bead shop. If the entrance wasn't enough,

check out the ceiling. All kinds of wooden birds and animals.
It was an explosion of color and you walked in the door.
And every door it seemed, had a barrel of blooms.
Wonderful.

Easy like Sunday Morning

Walking down the street
Easy like Sunday morning
I'm content with me.

For some reason I'm into houses, streets, neighborhoods, architecture and all
the things that go along with them. The texture of the buildings, grasses, or no grass, the broken
glass in the ally, the unwatered flowers in the front flower beds, the over-loaded trash
bins and the different colors or paints that people choose for their personal domicile.
I think about who it is that lives in these houses or works in these buildings. Who goes out
on a Saturday morning and mows the lawns or waters the potted plants, or digs up a
trench to repair a broken sewer line. That takes dedication and love. Whew!

Prayers

A painting for me
is a prayer of thanksgiving
my gift of talent

My drawings are prayers
scribbled across the pages
for the love of art

A meditation
for me, is in my paintbrush
swirled across the page

My niece Kimberlee took this photo on one of my trips to
Eureka and my brothers house. All the girls were out on the patio

painting and drawing. Even the 7,8 and 9 year olds were in the act.
A great time was had by all.

My favorite wall for making art!

Making art is joy
in a space filled with magic
with my heart and hands

This is a beautifully cluttered space in my dining room.
A wall of boxes, bins, cubbies and catchalls,
where I spend hours painting, drawing, cutting, pasting,
sculpting and writing. Each box or bin contains many treasures
I've collected over the years and have saved for just the very thing
I might need for a special project or piece of art that will finish it perfectly.

This is my play room.
This is my "Essential Sandbox"
